Bandwidth Meter. Provides in real time, accurate measurements on Bandwidth consumption for Quality of Experience tracking. Bandwidth meter options are:
- Per user, tracking all the Bandwidth consumed in Upstream/Downstream
- Per service, with meters for IPTV, VoIP, High Speed Internet
- Per PON, with meters for the aggregated consumption of all users within this PON port
PON Inventory information: Collecting all information on the Users (ONU ID, Serial Number, Password, Encryption Key, Equalization delay, OMCI port, State) and on the PON port they are connected to (PON ID, Class, OLT power level, RE power)
Customer Services information: Logical Connections, Bandwidth assignments, Type of Service.
Alarms on events: ONU deactivation, Loss of Signal/Frame/Multiframe, Errors found (CRC, FEC or BIP)
Real Time Data Extraction: Allows clear-text user traffic extraction in real-time for both upstream and downstream. The traffic is extracted at Ethernet Layer. This traffic can be further tested by Upper Layer Protocol Testers, either externally or by a Software Network Protocol Tester installed within the GPON Doctor™.

Quality of Experience Monitor.The QoE probe will monitor and detect deviations from the optimum service provision and inform the network management system so that is can provide the appropriate corrective measures.
Real time Bandwidth Consumption Monitoring. By identifying real bandwidth consumption in life, allows every Network Supervisor to identify any deviation from optimum performance as fast as it happens. Furthermore, with its real time user traffic extraction, it is possible to supervise every service behavior per customer.
PON Settings Validation. An excellent tool to check the correct configuration of all network elements within the PON as well as whether the services are correctly provisioned.
On the Field Troubleshooting. The most critical part in solving a problem is the identification of the problem itself. The information provided by the probe (error/ warnings, alarms and events) help field technicians to find out and troubleshoot problems within the PON.

Chipset-Less Implementation

Capture hardware exclusively developed for this product. Results are not biased by any vendor proprietary GPON hardware implementation.

PON Passive and position independent

Control data frame by frame inspection without need of traffic regeneration or modification. Including an automatic adaptive synchronization system to compensate distance to the OLT.

Real time GPON Supervision

GPON QoE supervise all GTC and OMCI messages over the fibre in Real Time to help to keep track of negotiation processes and configurations.

Real time user traffic extraction

GPON Doctor™ extracts decrypted user traffic in real time and at Ethernet layer. This traffic is made available at the 10/100/1000BaseT interface for its monitoring and upper layer test by external network testing tools and/or other application tools. Its hardware decoder fully supports AES automatic decryption combined with FEC encoding.

Service regeneration and QoS Evaluation

Regenerate services established over a PON network. i.e. Multicast video can be sniffed & reassembled in real time. This feature is perfect to evaluate QoS and QoE of configured services over a PON.

Real time User Ethernet traffic extraction

GPONDoctor QoE proba allows clear-text user traffic extraction in real-time for both upstream and downstream. The traffic is extracted at Ethernet layer.

This traffic can be further analysed by upper layer protocol analyzers, either external or by a software network protocol analyzer installed within a Laptop/Desktop computer.

This feature can be also used to regenerate services inside GPON: Watch Multicast Video flows, hear sound of voice services in realtime, analyze QoS & QoE.

FAQs

1.1 GPON Doctor reports uLOSb, why?

GPON Doctor displays this message in the capture window when it expects an upstream burst according to downstream BWMaps (SSTART and SSTOP) and no optical signal is detected in the upstream direction. Please note that uLOSb and uLOFb are not messages exchanged by OLT and ONUs, but an indication generated by the GPON Doctor itself.
The most common reason for this indication is that the addressed ONU is not connected in the same branch as the GPON Doctor. Other reasons for these notification is that the ONU is not working properly (it is not generating transmissions when indicated by the OLT) or that there are power issues.
When GPON Doctor includes uLOSb indications in the capture window these are also reflected in the Errors Report as LOSB notifications. When 4 or more of these notifications happen consecutively for the same ONU this will be reported as an “ONU enters in LOSi” Warning.

1.2 There are a lot of CRC errors in the capture, why?

Once transmission errors are discarded (both OLT and ONUs are operating “correctly”) and many CRC errors are still reported by GPON Doctor, the most common reason for these indications is that GPON Doctor is not working in the optimal optical operation range. Either the optical power is under the sensitivity limit or over the saturation point. Please, check the optical power before the capture to ensure GPON Doctor receives adequate optical power.
Furthermore, some power meters obtain the average measure. In downstream, the value is reliable because the OLT sends a continuous optical signal, but in the upstream, the traffic is based on bursts. Therefore, the optical meters can provide a wrong or tricky measure.

1.3 GPON Doctor detects uLOFb, why?

GPON Doctor displays this message in the capture window when it expects an upstream burst according to downstream BWMaps (SSTART and SSTOP) and although a valid optical signal is received, the delimiter cannot be found. Please note that uLOSb and uLOFb are not messages exchanged by OLT and ONUs, but an indication generated by the GPON Doctor itself.
Possible reasons for this indication are that the ONU is not working properly (it is not generating transmissions when indicated by the OLT) or that there are power issues.
When GPON Doctor includes uLOFb indications in the capture window these are also reflected in the Errors Report as LOFB notifications. When 4 or more of these notifications happen consecutively for the same ONU this will be reported as an “ONU enters in LOFi” Warning.
